Feb. 17-23

Thank you to all of the parents who braved the cold to come to our Parent Teacher Interviews this past week!  The teachers enjoyed sharing their students’ learning with parents. Report cards will be published on Thursday, March 21 at 4:00 pm.

Starting last year, our division moved to a re-registration process for all returning students to our division.  These numbers help us better plan staffing and resources for the coming year. This year, the re-registration process is during the month of February.   We currently have 164 students out of 569 students who have not re-registered. Anyone who has not re-registered by the end of February will need to be contacted by Mme Vargas in the office so we would gratefully ask you to do this by the end of February to help cut down on the number of calls she will need to make.  Thank you to the many families who have already re-registered! If you have any questions about the process, please feel free to contact the school office at 780-467-5143.

Working with you,
Mme Sauder & Mme Garneau

Did you know?

This coming week, we have 4 grade six girls who will be attending the WISEST at the U of A with Mme Bishop.  Women in Scholarship, Engineering, Science, & Technology (WISEST) focuses on creating effective programs to empower women (and other underrepresented groups) to pursue, impact, and succeed in the fields of science, engineering, and technology.

Speaking French at School!

The best way to learn a language is to use it as much as possible!  While students won’t always have the necessary vocabulary, the more they take risks to speak in French, the more they will learn new vocabulary.  The best thing you can do as a parent is encourage your child to speak in French, even when they tell you it is difficult. Our teachers all have some kind of system in place to help encourage students to speak in French and as a school, we are starting a new initiative to encourage all of our students to speak in French.  Every few weeks, teachers will be nominating a student who has tried particularly hard to speak in French. Their picture will be posted on the “Champion du français à Campbelltown” bulletin board which will be just outside of the office. Please join us in encouraging your child(ren) to speak as much French as possible.

Inclement Weather

After 2 weeks of cold weather and indoor recesses, we are hoping the weather will warm up soon!  Please remember that while it might be cold in the morning, it often warms up enough by the end of the day to have an outdoor recess.  Please ensure your child(ren) is properly dressed for going outside.

Secondary French Information Night

All families are invited to attend a secondary French Immersion night on Wednesday, February 20 from 6:30 - 7:30 pm.  This meeting will be held at Ardrossan Junior Senior High. If you want to learn more about French Immersion at the secondary level for both Ardrossan and Sherwood Heights, we invite you to join us.  You do not need to have a child in grade 6 to join us and anyone is welcome! There will be a representative from the Campus St. Jean who will be talking about French after high school as well.

Counsellor’s Corner

Random Acts of Kindness Week

The Grade 5 and 6 Leadership students have planned events throughout next week to help our students celebrate Random Acts of Kindness Week and to promote kindness. I encourage families to celebrate this week at home. Visit here for some Choose Kind ideas to promote kindness at home.

Parent Council

Please join us on Tuesday, February 19th at 6:30 pm for our next parent council meeting. We will be chatting about upcoming school community events, a marker recycling program, and of course, recapping the parent engagement meeting that took place February 11th regarding the upcoming expansion of French Immersion in Strathcona County. We look forward to seeing you!
